JOB SUMMARY

The National Main Street Center is a non-profit subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Senior Manager of Foundation and Corporate Giving works in close collaboration with the Center’s CEO and program staff to secure resources to support the mission of the Center as well as its members. The Senior Manager will do this by focusing on developing large, high-impact foundation proposals and creating new corporate relationships.

DUTIES

Cultivates, solicits, and stewards foundation & corporate partners. 

  • Manages prospect lists and “moves management” approach to identify, cultivate, and solicit grants and sponsorships of five to six figures to help meet the Center’s approximately $1M -$2M annual philanthropic revenue goal.
  • Works closely with CEO to ensure effective executive engagement in fundraising as appropriate
  • Builds and manages significant professional relationships with key funders.
  • Assesses Letter Of Intent (LOI) and proposal opportunities and ensures Center meets deadlines with exceptional submissions.
  • Manages stewardship reports process needed to support the value of investment in the Center.

Meets the fundraising objectives of the organization.

  • Collaborates with the CEO and CFO to establish annual foundation and corporate fundraising budgets.
  • Manages a quarterly fundraising dashboard for executive staff and board to monitor progress toward annual revenue targets.
  • Provides expertise and guidance to colleagues to help meet annual conference sponsorship fundraising goals.
  • Fosters a collaborative relationship with program managers at the Center to ensure alignment between funding needs and fundraising efforts.

Develops communications, tools, and other resources needed to manage a high-level fundraising program. 

  • Provides exceptional content and writing for grant proposals.
  • Creates case statements, reports, letters, email communications and other fundraising tools needed to maintain contact with prospects.
  • Utilizes the Center’s CRM to maintain a complete record of interactions with prospects and donors. Provides frequent reports to the CEO using the database. 

Supervises development staff and contractors.

  • Serves as the team leader for Development.  
  • Supervises the Manager of Sponsorships and the contract Grant Writer. In this capacity, helps to develop workplans, organizes workflow and delegates assignments; monitors employee productivity and performance, provides constructive feedback and coaching, and conducts annual performance reviews; works with management, direct reports and Office of Human Resources as needed to identify, respond to, and resolve problems or performance issues as they arise.  Monitors and approves timekeeping and related budget for direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8 years of professional level experience, including at least 5 years in fundraising with a focus in the foundation and/or corporate areas.
  • Expert knowledge of targeted fundraising techniques for foundations and corporations, with track record of successfully seeking and helping to close five to six figure gifts
  • Ability to work independently to cultivate and manage the development process.
  • Demonstrated experience in proposal writing.
  • Experience with CRM database for fundraising management.
  • Advanced organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, including opportunity identification and prioritization and ability to achieve results with limited supervision
  • Experience successfully managing internal stakeholders and relationships, including demonstrated success in engaging culturally diverse partners and funders.
  • Effective presentation skills. Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills, as well as strong verbal communication and constituent service skills. Strong organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment required, including working effectively with frequent interruptions and handling changing and/or unscheduled tasks with accuracy. Public contact and ability to work successfully in close proximity to others required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel required. Familiarity with other business software, a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years of experience) required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Some travel may be required.
