The Foundation and Corporate Relations Officer is responsible for strategizing, planning and coordinating fundraising initiatives in the foundation and corporate giving sector.

As a Foundation and Corporate Relations Officer, you will have an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver messages about a wide range of issues, from the economics of energy and the environment to climate mitigation and adaptation, and from fundamental natural resource topics like forests and fisheries management to land use planning, water quality, and protection of endangered species. The Foundation and Corporate Relations Officer reporting to the Director of Development, will develop successful fundraising relationships to help meet the overall $6.6 million fundraising goal.
What you’ll do:
Design and execute strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects capable of making five- to seven-figure restricted gifts to directly support RFF’s work.
Develop an understanding of RFF’s research and ability to articulate its impact; maintain an awareness of emerging research priorities in need of financial support; build and maintain relationships with Research staff to acquire necessary information about research projects to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects effectively.
Directly manage and maintain institutional donor and prospect relationships, including conducting in-person meetings and phone calls, personally making requests for support, and drafting and submitting letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and other requests.
Facilitate and coordinate staff engagement with institutional donors and prospects through briefings, talking points, scheduling, correspondence, and other follow up activities.
Works collaboratively with RFF colleagues and members of the RFF board to create strategies to expand RFF’s pipeline of institutional support, including increasing funding support towards general operations.
Build and maintain relationships with Research and Communications staff to acquire the information needed to engage donors and prospects solicit gifts and steward relationships effectively; achieve and sustain fluency with regard to RFFs research more generally.
A Bachelor’s degree and relevant proposal writing experience. Position requires at least 3 years in institutional fundraising, including knowledge of development practices and proposal writing techniques.
Demonstrated success and effectiveness in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding donors/prospects.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, engaging interpersonal skills, high energy, personal initiative and a sense of humor.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and ability to meet deadlines and goals with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated proficiency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office and experience with constituent relationship management (CRM) systems (i.e. Raisers Edge or similar).
Positive, helpful, and proactive demeanor.
Ability to travel; valid driver’s license is required.
A passion for environmental issues and familiarity with economic principles is preferred.
